Welcome to Richmond Hill (Canada) Hindu Temple's web site!

The Hindu Temple Society of Canada welcomes you to the Cyber-abode of Richmond Hill Hindu Temple, near Toronto, Canada, the biggest of its kind in North America! This is where would you see such an ensemble of Hindu Deities, attended to by highly dedicated and qualified priests in a very traditional way, much akin to some of the famous temples in South India / Sri Lanka. Our objective is to provide you with basic and up-to-date information necessary to help you plan your next visit to the temple, whether from within Canada or abroad. This effort should be construed as a work in progress and so kindly let us have your feedback, so that we could do the utmost to improve. Kindly do send us your feedback and suggestions.

We are delighted to inform you that as of December of 2003, we have started a Tamil section , as an ancillary to our main web site, for those who wish to view the pages in Tamil. This section is in its infancy, and currently is amalgamated with the English section. The aim is to ultimately separate the Tamil section into an independent web site. The Tamil section uses Dynamic Tamil fonts, which means there is no need for you to download and install additional language fonts. Also, we use state-of-the-art UNICODE encoding and hence the pages are searchable using keywords by search engines such as Google. We hope you enjoy our new addition.

The Newsletters section of this site requires Acrobat Reader  which is available for free - please see Help section for downloading these. Many of the photographs require a screen resolution of 1024 X 768 Pixels.

Temple President's Column

Dr. Krishnan, President of the Society  The last three months of the year 2010 have been eventful in the temple affairs. The Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) has written to us to say that our urgent financial assistance to Tsunami victims are not in compliance with the CRA rules and we are dealing with it through our lawyers.

The Ganesa and Murugan Festivals went off very well and thousands of people attended the festivals. It appears to me that our festivals and the religious observances are the best in this town and a treat to participate in. No wonder our temple is called the ‘big’ temple. We will conduct the Sivan, Perumāl and Ālwār festivals also in the same manner.

The Board has now elected two members in place of Late Vairavanathan and Late Sivalingam. They are Ravi Varman and Gnanalingam. I welcome them to the Board.

We are now starting the planning process for building the Rajagopurams and other associated constructions so that we can have a grand Kumbabishegam in the year 2012. This is an ambitious program with an ambitious target date. With the blessings of Lord Ganesa and the help of all the devotees, we must be able to have a grand celebration in 2012.

On behalf of the Board of trustees, I thank all the devotees for their tireless devotion to our temple. May God bless all of you and your families.
  - S.Krishnan, President, The Hindu Temple Society of Canada

8th Annual Āzhwār Mahothsavam & Dedications this year

New Garuda VahanaWe are pleased to announce that, in line with previous years, we will be celebrating the 8th Annual 3-day Azhwar Mahothsavam at our Temple in a grand manner, between Sep 17-19, 2010. We will be paying special homage this year to Sri Thirumangai Āzhwār who had sung extensively on almost all the Divya Desa Perumals beginning with his famous 'Periya Thirumozhi'. We have planned three special dedications this year for Sri Venkateswara. They are:

1. Special "Sahasra Nāma Mālai, consisting of 1020 gold dipped coins. Each coin will have Sri Mahā Lakshmi Thāyār on one side with a Nāmā of the Lord (taken from Sri Vishnu Sahasranāmam), on the other side.

2. Garuda Vāhanam (A 'vehicle' for Utsava Perumāl) made in Brass with lacquer finish to hold the Vighraham.

3. Thiruman Kāppu in silver specially designed to hold 'Pacchaikarpura thiruman'.

The Temple would appreciate very much if you can offer your generous support this year as well. Please make all donations (cheques) payable to "The Hindu Temple Society of Canada". Please mark in the memo column "Azhwars utsavam 2010".

We present some photographs we have received of the Sahasra Nāma Mālai and Garuda Vāhanam, while under construction in Kumbakonam, India. Please click here to be taken to the photo album (Opens a separate window).
